African Greys
The African Grey is a medium size parrot and is your best talker and most intelligent parrot. They are a bird that prefers you are not a "touchy feely" owner to a degree. If intelligence and speech are the most important traits you seek, an African Grey may be right for you!
Amazons
Second only to the African Grey in speech the Amazons (particularly yellow naped, double yellowheads etc) are your next best talkers. These birds are known to bond primarily to one person above all others and may be a bit headstrong. If you can put it down when it wants to be left alone, value talking and its size, an Amazon may be for you!
Caiques
Clowns of the parrot world. Though they are not known for talking, these birds are active and as such should be in a cage larger than normal for their body size. Anything is a potential toy to them! If you have ever considered parrot tricks or training a clown for a show, you're going to love them! If possible, at least a pair together get even crazier, rolling, hopping (they don't walk they hop!) together playfully. If cute looks, abundant energy & playful nature are what you are after, a Caique may be for you.
Cockatoos
Lovebugs, cuddlebugs, clowns and similar words have often described the cockatoo family of birds. Umbrella and Moluccan cockatoos are some of our personal favorites. If you like a hands on bird that loves to be cuddled and clowns around above its limited vocabulary, then a cockatoo may be perfect for you!
Eclectus
Eclectus are one of the few species that can be visually sexed - males are green, females are red and blue! The males are often what people visualize when imagining a parrot. They make fantastic pets if in a low traffic, quieter home. If you like beautiful, medium sized birds and have a quieter home then eclectus may be perfect for you.
Macaws
Macaws are a truly majestic looking bird. They require lots of stimulation and can be loud at times. Though not the best talkers they make up for it with their playful personality and stunning looks. If you are not intimidated by their large size, can provide them space, plenty of toys and a good home, then you may belong with a macaw!
